Caring For Your Stone

Caring for Your Marble

Marble should be cleaned with a neutral PH cleaner such as Dry-Treat Stain Proof Daily Counter Top Cleaner, Fila Neutral Cleaner & Resealer or any other brand of stone specific cleaner which clearly states it is meant to be used with marble. We recommend resealing marble tops every one to three years depending on the volume of use. Never use acidic cleaners such as vinegar and water on marble as marble reacts with acids which will dull the stones finish.

Limestones and Travertines are very similar to marble and the same care instructions apply.

What is Marble?

Marble is a metamorphic rock. Originally limestone, over time the combination of heat and pressure caused the limestone to re-crystallize. Foreign substances that often entered the stone during this process created an infinite variety of colors, textures, and veining. In its purest form marble is crystalline white calcite. Impurities of dolomite, silica or clay provide variations in color and significant movement.

Caring for Your Granite

Granite should be cleaned with a neutral PH cleaner such as Dry-Treat Stain Proof Daily Counter Top Cleaner, Fila Neutral Cleaner & Resealer or any other brand of stone specific cleaner which clearly states it is meant to be used with granite. Our high grade sealer typically lasts for twenty five years on polished granites and five years on honed and leathered granites. Avoid using high or low PH cleaners such as ammonia or vinegar as these will lower the life span of the sealer.

What is Granite?

Granite is an igneous rock formed from the solidification of magma deep in the earth. It contains 45 to 65% silica(quartz) and the remaining minerals are mostly feldspar, mica and iron ores. The minerals found in igneous rocks are usually dense and packed tightly due to their formation under extreme pressures and heat.

Caring for Your Quartzite

Quartzite should be cleaned with a neutral PH cleaner such as Dry-Treat Stain Proof Daily Counter Top Cleaner, Fila Neutral Cleaner & Resealer or any other brand of stone specific cleaner which clearly states it is meant to be used with natural stone. Our high grade sealer typically lasts for fifteen years on polished quartzites and three to five years on honed and leathered quartzites. Avoid using high or low PH cleaners such as ammonia or vinegar as these will lower the life span of the sealer.

Caring for Your Quartz

Care instructions vary depending on the manufacturer so we recommend always checking the manufacturers recommended methods for cleaning. However, most quartz brands recommend using a neutral PH cleaner similar to what would be used for natural stone. Any markings that you may have trouble getting out with a standard cleaner can be cleaned using Soft Scrub with a soft cloth or paper towel. If you are still having trouble removing a marking from the surface please call our office for further instructions or to schedule a technician for further assistance.
